The 2nd installment of The UnVeiling Project Project.
The veil in history has been used in many cultures. In Medieval Europe women would sometimes wear a veil, especially married women but they would not cover their face. Wearing a face covering is something different altogether.
The veil was introduced more then 3000 years ago and initially worn as a symbol of social status and not religion, I.E. by respected women & wives of the household so that they could be distinguished from slaves and or prostitutes.
This ART project of mine, which I call The UnVeiling Project, questions the use of this Pre-Roman piece of cloth in our world today. I have photographed numerous women, the first in 2004, from many backgrounds and religions, wearing only a Veil and asked how they felt wearing it.
These are her quotes in the photograph.
Just this piece of cloth, their voice and Mother Earths very own, female form.
These images are only for the web. The limited collection will be shown in a gallery within the next year and will be on canvas/mixed media with acrylic paint.
